I'm Using SuSE 8.2 with the 2.4.21-144-default kernel on an old Compaq E500 laptop. I have two PCMCIA cards, one is a network card and the other is a Belkin USB 2.0 card. I can insert and remove the network card on the fly with no problems at all. The USB card inserts just fine and the system picks it up and installs it like a dream. Right now the only thing I use with this card is a 40GB buslink drive that the system also sees and installs automagically with no problems. When I'm done with it I unmount it and disconnect it from the card. At this point everything is still running fine. When I remove the card however, the system freaks out and locks the keyboard. Everything else still works, I can still navigate with the mouse but I can't type anything. Ctrl-alt-delete doesn't work, it doesn't seem to see recieve any input from the keyboard at all. Also, when this happens, I can't shutdown properly, it hangs immediately after shutting down kde. Is there some way of properly turning off or disabling the USB 2.0 card before removing it or do I need to kill a process of some kind?
