Second method: rpm -Fvh http://ftp.us.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/3.2/SuSE/ix86/9.0/*.rpm
I tried that and got:
suillus:/home/pwa # rpm -Fvh http://ftp.us.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/3.2/
SuSE/
ix86/9.0/*.rpm error: File not found by glob: http://ftp.us.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/3.2/SuSE/ ix86/9.0/*.rpm
OK, yeah, the path would have to be to the exact location of the rpms, I
guess
that would be something like .../9.0/base/*.rpm or .../9.0/applications/
*.rpm
The 9.0 directory doesn't have any subdirectories, only rpms. Specifying just that directory without the "*.rpm" doesn't work either. Any ideas on how to get around that?
Oh, I'm sorry, I just realised that the url is a http. http doesn't support wildcards. Try ftp instead
I've tried: suillus:~ # rpm -Fvh ftp://ftp.us.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/3.2/SuSE/ix86/9.0/ Retrieving ftp://ftp.us.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/3.2/SuSE/ix86/9.0/ error: skipping ftp://ftp.us.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/3.2/SuSE/ix86/9.0/ - transfer failed - Unknown or unexpected error suillus:~ # rpm -Fvh 'ftp://ftp.us.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/3.2/SuSE/ix86/9.0/ *.rpm' error: File not found by glob: ftp://ftp.us.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/3.2/SuSE/ ix86/9.0/*.rpm suillus:~ # I think an unquoted "*" will cause trouble because the globbing substitution will take place before rpm even sees the command line. But quoting didn't solve the problem either. Has anyone actually gotten this method to work? If so, could you post the precise command you used? Paul Abrahams
