I wish a SuSE9 ws to boot as X Terminal and display a login screen from the requiered KDM or XDM server (SuSE Linux or Solaris). In addition to work in 'pure X terminal mode', the SuSE9 ws is requiered only to handle a tablet (digitizer) connected to its local serial port. I wish to know how to trim SuSE9 to speed up the boot process and dedicate most of the ws resources for the above purpose. That is, which and how to disable unecessary startup scripts, services and deamons? I have also seen mentioned that booting to run level 1 (singleuser) can be sufficient for a pure X terminal mode, but I am not sure regarding the serial tablet support? TIA/Terje
