Suse has done a good job in improving/simplyfying the Samba setup in 9.0. In 8.2 (which I'm still running) you configure the client in KDE Control Center (although I have not been able to get this to work with an XP box). As far as the server config, you can use Swat that comes with 8.2, althoug you have to enable it, I beleive in Initd. HoweverI like to use the KSamba plugin, downloaded from samba.org. Installs with no problem and you will get an configuration app also in Control Center where the client config is. Remember you have to start the SMB and NMB services in order to use Samba. The simplest way is to set them to run on startup using Runelvel Editor in Yast. I have sambaset to run in levels 3 and 5. The server works great, but as I said I have not been able to get the client to run correctly, or at least I can't print from my 8.2 box to my XP box using Samba. I'm running 9.0 Personal with Samba installed (yes, it's an add-on from the SuSE ftp site). In Yast2, under Network Services, I see options for configuring both Samba Client and Samba Server. However, I was just working on a friend's system, and he's running 8.2 Pro. In his copy of Yast2, Samba Client and Samba Server don't appear under Network Services, even though he's installed all the Samba modules. Any idea why not?
