I just ran 3Ddiag again, and glxinfo | grep rendering and got this:-

I just noticed something at the top of glxinfo's output it says direct rendering: No and I honestly swear 3 nights ago it said yes there
I have tried setting 3d using yast and it doesn't seem to stick but i have other problems with yast/sax in that sax uses a wierd setting that screws up and freezes with what looks like to be the wrong horizontal frequency as it displays lots of little versions of the screen at the top just as if the freq was incorrect.
I have this in my XF86Config.
Section "Module" Load "v4l" Load "glx" Load "speedo" Load "freetype" Load "type1" Load "GLcore" Load "dri" Load "dbe" Load "extmod" EndSection

I think I might have other problems now though as the differences between the last time i ran 3Ddiag, glxinfo etc. and just now to check seem quite big even if i can't remember exactly what they are. guess it's time to potter about again.

writes: I have an old ATI Rage 128 PCI videocard in this box that worked great under 8.2. basically I just installed it and told YaST that it was there and everything was fine.
After upgrading to 9.0 pro it works but not fully, if i run glxgears and expand the window to greater than approximatly 800x600 (not quite accurate as sometimes it's a little less and sometimes a little more) it freezes X and I have to either reboot or kill X via another terminal.
It also freezes X on some screensavers but not all and not always the same ones everytime.
this is beginning to really annoy me as it didn't do any of these things under 8.2 and in my hurry to install 9.0 i didn't verify my backups and they turned out to be flawed so I can't even go back and see what changed.
does anyone have any ideas on what is going on, and/or how to solve this as I am going slowly crazy.
What does glxinfo say? It sounds as if dri is not working. Have you tried enabling 3D support using yast?
