I think there's a noticeable hit. I got frustrated with several niggling things on 9.0 -- including the speed issue -- and went back to 8.2. I have to say that I feel that things sped back up. I don't have any quantifications, but I would like to point out that after spending $70 (including shipping) for 9.0, I was predisposed to like it, so it's not like I was looking for things that would annoy me.
Well I'm new to Suse, and I've really noticed the speed difference between Suse 9.0, and other distros including Mandrake 9.2, and Fedora 1. I can't even play a dvd with MPlayer anymore with out it skipping all the time..... Mof.
