.... Being a bit of a newbie, I get a bit confused by terminology such as xft, qt, and gtk. Guess I've got a lot to learn! Thanks for your help.

Dom, I am a newbie also. However, I think of such terms as xft, qt and gtk anmes of "libraries" or "rpms". If I wanted to know more about "gtk", I will do, for example: "pin gtk" on a command line: In this case it returned on my 8.1 box the following: pin 0.26 - package info for gtk ------------------------------------------------------------------ *** rpm info ------------------------------------------------------------------ Name gtk Relocations: (not relocateable) Version: 1.2.10 Vendor: SuSE Linux AG, Nuernberg, Germany Release: 460 Build Date: Mon 14 Oct 2002 12:26:44 PM PDT Install date: Wed 30 Jul 2003 04:45:55 PM PDT Build Host: D251.suse.de Group: System/Libraries Source RPM: gtk-1.2.10-460.src.rpm Size: 2579613 License: GPL Packager : http://www.suse.de/feedback Summary: Library for creation of graphical user interfaces Description: This fast and versatile library is used all over the world for all GNOME applications, the GIMP and several others. Originally it was written for the GIMP and hence has the name Gimp ToolKit. Many people like it because it is small, efficient and very configurable... ---<snip>--- If "pin" (Package IdentificatiN) doesn't return anything useful, then usually if I google on the "term + linux" a link will come up that allows me to find out more.
