For the laser, any HP working fine
Please think a bit before posting. Other users may buy total crap because of such comments. HP LaserJet 1000 1005 3100 3150 are not supported by SUSE LINUX. HP LaserJet 1150 2D 3200 3200m 3200se 3330 MFP are only mostly or partially supported. See http://www.linuxprinting.org/ and read the comments there. The HP LaserJet 1000 1005 3100 3150 are good examples for the possible differences between Linuxprinting.org and what is supported by SUSE LINUX: HP LaserJet 3100 3150 are not supported at all. HP LaserJet 1000 1005 are listed as "mostly" supported on Linuxprinting.org but this printers are not supported by SUSE LINUX. The reason is that for the HP LaserJet 1000 1005 a really annoying procedure is required to get it working: Read the comments on Linuxprinting.org http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-LaserJet_1000 --------------------------------------------------------------------- ... this printer is very strange. You need to send firmware to it, but if you do that more than one time during printer on, the printer donot print anything. So after turning on the printer, you need to upload its firmware (cat * >/dev/usb/lp0). ... For a quicker firmware download, use the firmware in: http://chinasupport.hp.com.cn/local_drivers/7802/lj1000hostbased-en.exe which is only a 4 MB download. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Obviously we will never include the firmware in SUSE LINUX because we will never risk any kind of license problems only to support such problematic hardware - see http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/1998/06/ke_printer-gdi.html Regards Johannes Meixner ----------------------------------------------------------- SUSE LINUX AG, Deutschherrnstr. 15-19 Mail: jsmeix@suse.de 90429 Nuernberg, Germany WWW: http://www.suse.de/ -----------------------------------------------------------
