Some of us can't live without locate from the findutils-locate package. After installing, run updatedb and by default it runs as a cron.daily job, thereafter, "locate filename", "locate .exe" speedily prints out all files with the name, it's much nicer and quicker than "find / -name *.exe -print" or "find / -name *.exe -print0". what is the equivalent command of this? dir /s *.exe (in dos)
thank you
Run as root:
find / -name *.exe
Quite :) Remember that you have to escape the '*' to keep the shell from expanding it.
So it's either
find / -name \*.exe
or
find / -name '*.exe'
cheers Philipp
PS Why it'll mostly work as intended is left as an exercise :)
