A Hong Kong citizen mentions :-
"yes linux is very hot in china
many govt offices use it because it's cheap, politically correct, and not prone to those infamous windows bugs. chinese officials have said they also worry about hidden access holes built into windows by MS for US intelligence uses."
I just came back from HK. I bought there some parts for my PC and helped my host to fix and renew her PC. I bought a couple of AMD CPUs and included in the offer there was a free Linux course. The company making the course is a spin-off of HK Uni. It was quite impressive to see all the courses they offer (http://www.swpearl.com/ ??? not sure) HKLUG has some ppl quite involved in embedded Linux (not a surprise actually), they organized a couple of speeches at the Polytechnic. Many TW mobo producers now bundle a full Linux distro with OpenOffice and KDE set up to become an easy to install Office workstation. If I remember right Chintech was one. But while SUSE should support asian languages, I didn't see any SUSE box there, just RH... and here in Italy still hard to put my hands on 9.0.
