1. When I do the samba client setup with the firewall running, I get a message that samba client detected and that port 139 must be enabled. At this time, samba cannot find the domain. I go to the firewall configuration and enable port 139. Still same thing. I have to disable the firewall in order for samba to work. Why does enabling port 139 not work or is there something I am missing?
In Yast2, under the SYSTEM section there is an icon for sysconfig parameters. Click on this and search for "samba". There is a parameter called "FW_SERVICE_SAMBA" or something similar. Set the flag to "yes".
When configuring SuSEfirewall2, uncheck "Protect internal network" if security is not an issue.
It not clear if the two flags can be set. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable could help?

Tried this, still same problem plus a new one. With the firewall activated, when I try to type something into the Mozilla search window, it locks up. Also tried to uninstall Samba 2.2.8a and install Samba 3 via apt. No luck. cannot remove samba 2.2.8a. The flag you mention is for samba server also and I am just trying to get samba client to work.
