I had tried the NvAGP parameter before but to no avail. However!! I just tried turning off acpi in the bios and 3d now works!!

Just a quick reply to my own message in case anyone else is having problems like mine :) I turned acpi back on in the bios and passed acpi=off to grub in the boot loader and 3d still works fine. Glenn
