I just updated XFree86 in apt. I ran SuSEconfig. Now, I'm sure I need to restart x. How do I do this without rebooting?
( I think I asked this question before, but I can't find the answer in the archives.)

You can do the brute force method. As Richard mentioned ctl+alt+bkspc--no finesse but effective. Or from a root terminal "/etc/init.d/xdm restart". Or you can reinitialize the whole runlevel which is the next best thing to restarting "telinit 1" then "telinit 5". This is usually overkill but I've used it to solve problems when I have trouble getting things to reinitialize. Of course you don't want to do that if you have network connections that you want to keep open. John S.
