I currently run a dual cpu system, started out with one and added another when I could afford it. Most likely the newer MB's can also run with one at first. The ASUS MB that I have required that both be the same speed but you need to check the one you purchase for that requirement. Buy the fastest one you can afford at first, by the time you afford the second one the price will have dropped.

Also make sure you don't wait too long before adding a second CPU. I don't think you'll be able to run CPUs of different speeds as the multipliers are locked these days (unless you want to tinker with them to unlock them). The one you first bought might not be available any more later. Example, I bought an AthlonXP 1800+ in January this year. It was one of the faster ones available at the time. The "slowest" AMD chip on the local market right now is a 2000+ Hans
