Dear Pat, You were right. Nothing in those files that gave a clue what is causing the hanging of KDE. I deleted KDE leaving only those programs which were necessary for other programs and reinstalled all of KDE. Same problem so that I am now so far as to do what every Windoows user does daily. I will tomorrow night reinstall my 8.2 complete unles you have still other ideas, leaving only my home directory untouched. Must be something very persistant which is causing me problems with KDE. Thanks for your assistance. ==================
Do you get to the login screen ok or do your problems begin before that? From what I remember of past mails, it is just when KDE is booting up and going thru it's initialization process that it hangs? If it begins to give you trouble before the login screen, then try booting to init 3 only and from the command line issue the init 5 command to start your Xserver. When you get your bootloader screen, type "init 3" to only load to the konsole. Log in as root and issue "init 5" from there. If it begins only after logging in KDE, then try going to your message console, Ctrl-Alt-F10, to see if you can catch an error there as KDE attempts to boot.
