This is indeed good news. I can't seem to find any mention of a pending RC release on OO Forums. Is it confirmed?
Not officially AFAIK. There was mention of it on the OOo user's mailing list yesterday. But of course I'm just passing on rumour, so could be completely wrong ;-) Keep an eye on the OOo website...
I ask simply because I've had 0 luck trying to install OO 1.1b2 on 8.2. Keep getting an infernal error when running the install script, "Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server Xlib: Protocol not supported by server".
Install fails to install anything to /opt/.. at that point.
Sounds like you're trying to install into /opt when you're a normal user. You need to be root to do that. When you do the initial "setup -net", ensure you are in a root teminal. In Konsole or xterm, type 'sux' to allow you to start X programs as root. Then type "setup -net" from the OOo install directory. After it is installed, exit, then cd to where you installed OOo (e.g. /opt/OpenOffice.org1.1/programs) and run the setup as an ordinary user. Works for me, anyway. Jason
