Xresources wouldn't work, as I need different xterms of different sizes. As for the command line, that is what I'm looking for, and not finding O:-)
'xterm -geo 70x50 -fn 9x15' will start with a 70x50 window, an unspecified location, and the 9x15 fixed font. Check /usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc/fonts.alias for what's available as far as fonts go (you can make your own aliases like 'HUGE' too). You can define multiple Xresources for a given client as well by hard linking xterm to small_xterm and then setting resources like small_xterm*whatever: -- -ckm
