Using the SuSE 8.1 pro distribution, I'd like to set up a LAMP, because I want to use PHP-webbased applications. All I can set up so far is LA. Problem is that I am an experienced end-user, but do not really have much technical knowledge. I should have something like a LAMP guide. Apart from that, MySQL ends immediately after starting up.
Via YaST I use the "Runlevel Editor" to start up Apache en MySQL. And I get:
/etc/init.d/mysql start retourneerde 0 (Succes.) Starting service MySQL Starting mysqld-max daemon with databases from /var/lib/mysql 030621 16:25:57 mysqld ended
What is wrong?
Something seems to be wrong with the MySQL configuration.
Should I create a database first? How and where should I do that?
Usually the SuSE MySQL init script should take care of that on the first startup. If you have not created any databases yet, simply try to remove /var/lib/mysql competely and try to restart MySQL using "rcmysql start". Alternatively, have a look at the mysql.err log file in the same directory - - it should tell you what is wrong.
Is MySQL Navigator OK to edit the DB? If yes, how do I set it up? What is the server? (what is host, database, port and pocket?) Or is MyPHPAdmin a better option?
PHPMyAdmin is nice, if your web server/PHP are working already. Also have a look at "mysqlcc", the MySQL control center, which is a standalone graphical application.
I have no clue how to work with PHP (not programming, but I mean using it). Simply opening a PHP-file in Mozilla does not work.
Sorry for pouring out a load of questions.... I hope someone can help me. Thanx.
Sorry, can't help you with the PHP stuff...
