Hello John,
It is a tweek thing. I rebooted the computer and that solved the problem. How do I restart pppd? How do you kill a PID? I'm sorry I don't know enough about this to see what you mean in your example. I assume your showing that the program wasn't completely closed when the connection was lost. But I don't see it. But I would like to.
Anyway, this is where I am with the dialup logon:
SuSE Meta pppd (smpppd-ifcfg), Version 1.00 on orion. We are disconnected. trying to connect to smpppd connect to smpppd We are disconnected. We are connecting. pppd: Plugin passwordfd.so loaded. pppd: --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.42 pppd: --> Initializing modem. pppd: --> Sending: ATZ pppd: OK pppd: --> Sending: AT Q0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 pppd: AT Q0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 pppd: OK pppd: --> Sending: ATM1 pppd: ATM1 pppd: OK pppd: --> Modem initialized. pppd: --> Sending: ATDT9304784 pppd: --> Waiting for carrier. pppd: ATDT9304784 pppd: CONNECT 31200 V42bis pppd: --> Carrier detected. Starting pppd and hoping for the best. pppd: Serial connection established. pppd: Using interface ppp0 pppd: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/modem pppd: LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests pppd: Connection terminated. pppd: Receive serial link is not 8-bit clean: pppd: Problem: all had bit 7 set to 0 pppd: Hangup (SIGHUP) We are disconnected. pppd died: PPP negotiation failed (exit code 10)
What does this mean? What would cause this to happen? How can I correct it? Thanks, Jerome
to kill a PID you take for example:
root 10940 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? Z
Jun08 0:00 [pppd
<defunct>]
the 2nd field, (10940) is the PID psalm69:/usr/local/src/cvs # kill 10940 kills the process. now to restart pppd: I use Kinternet to connect, and it uses WvDial which uses pppd. you can manually start wvdial using a konsole with: /usr/bin/wvdial wvdial also uses pppd. now to configure wvdial: /usr/bin/wvdialconf type: man wvdialconf in a konsole for more info __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
