The mailing lists at www.php.net clearly state that PHP does not play nice with Apache2. Stick to Apache1. -Stathis. Anders Norrbring wrote:

Hi everybody! I'm trying to install Apache2 together with PHP4 and phpMyAdmin on my new SuSE Pro 8.2 server, but so far - no luck.. I use the standard installation options in Yast2 when I do a absolute fresh install on the computer and I've got the "Auto check dependencies" on. So, I thought all was well after marking up Apache2, PHP4 and phpMyAdmin and correlating modules as suggested by Yast2.
Does anyone know the reason/solution to this, or is it a clear case of calling support?
Did you edit /etc/sysconfig/apache2 and put php4 in the line beginning APACHE_MODULES ?
I got all this running by doing that then running SuSEconfig.
John, thanks, but no luck there either. I've been forth and back in the books accompanying my SuSE 8.2 box, but I can't find a single reference to how I can install and use php4 with Apache2. I guess it can be done by hand editing all the config files, but as this system will be administered by others than myself, I would really prefer to set this up "the SuSE way" but I simply don't know how to do it.. If anyone knows about an online "HOW-TO" or just anything about setting up SuSE 8.2, Apache2 and PHP4, please let me know!
Thank you! Anders Norrbring Norrbring Consulting
