The user is largely SOL. Best to wipe the virtual disk and start
over. I suggest next time using the ext2 filesystem so he/she can be
sure support for the root filesystem is compiled into the kernel.
ALWAYS make a rescure/boot floppy. A Linux lesson you can learn now
or later.
It may be possible to change the boot order in the virtual machine's
BIOS so the CD-ROM is first or at least before the hard disk.

Hi all,
I have about 3 hrs experience with Linux.
I installed SuSE 7.2 on a virtual machine (FWIW) and the installation seemed successful, but when I restart the Virtual Machine I get the following error:
Kernel Panic: VFS: unable to mount root fs on 08:06
This follows earlier warnings:
request_module[scsi_hostadapter]: Root fs not mounted.
I have done extensive searches and this problem seems fairly common. It involves modifying the LILO.conf with an initrd entry (or something like that). My first stumbling block however is how do I do anything if I can't boot my system!!
I didn't make a floppy, and I can't for the life of me seem to boot from the original installation CDs. I just get 2 valid options at the boot: prompt, 'linux' and 'memory test'. I tried typing 'manual' but it just says 'No such image. [Tab] shows a list'.
I feel totally stuck. Can someone help me out a bit??
Thanks, James.
