Thanks to all who responded to me on this configuration question. Stupid ME! The solution was very simple once I looked at it hard. I needed to modify boot = /dev/sda change-rules reset default = windows_2K the windows_2k to read windows_2000 to agree with other = /dev/sda1 label = windows_2000 As soon as I did that it wrote out properly. Again, thanks to all. dave Rob Sell wrote:
Are you sure Lilo is your default boot loader? Grub is the default in 8.2 but lilo is installed.

In a new install of 8.2, I am trying to modify LILO so that the splash screen displays windows_2k and SuSE_Linux_8_2 instead of windows and linux. When I run /sbin/lilo I get the following error which seems rather odd: "Fatal: No images have been defined or default image doesn't exist"
Windows 2k is the default boot os (bride's box), followed by the two oprions for SuSe 8.2. These have the following lines in lilo.config respectively: image = /boot/vmlinuz (for the SuSE_Linux_8.2 menu item and it exists as defined) and image = /boot/vmlinuz.shipped (for the failsafe menu item and it also exist as defined.)
I have this same configuration on my work machine - a windows shop - and it works just fine, so I must be missing something obvious, but for the moment I can't see it. The menu works fine right now as is, in this same boot order without the desired changes to the text in the menu, so the changes sre purely esthetic.
Any suggestion gratefully accepted.
