For the PCMCIA, I've noticed that I had to add "pci=biosirq". Also specify in /etc/sysconfig/pcmcia to use the external drivers, not the kernel ones, and edit the PCMCIA_PCIC_OPTS to ="irq_list=11". I've never had to do this with any linux system on my older (toshiba) laptop, but with this Compaq, it's been more like the laptop's playing "hard to get!"
Could it be that MS is playing hardball with the sellers to make it as hard as possible to use all of the features of pc's and laptops? Provide NO drivers for linux or lose MS certification? I also own a Compaq 1720US laptop and cannot get the APM features to work (shutoff at shutdown for one). I don't feel that I should have to roll my own kernel to get this to work. Or am I just missing something? Just my 2 cents. Ken Schneider
