Dear SuSE'ers, This weekend I removed an old ELSA Winner PCI VGA video card and replaced it with a nVidia Quadro Geforce 2 AGP video card. I cannot get SAX2 or YAST2 (ncurses) to configure it; the system cannot start in graphics mode. This is a SuSE 8.1 sys w/ kernel 2.4.19 SMP, 2 P-III 1.2GHz, 512MB RAM that is regularly kepr up to tdate via YOU, but I have NOT updated KDE to 3.1; KDE is at the SuSE YOU supplied 3.0.5 level. I removed the ELSA card, restarted the sys, did appropriate MB BIOS changes to accomodate the change from PCI video to AGP video, reset and rebooted, told GRUB to do "Linux 3" and 8.1 booted to runlevel 3. Logged in as root and invoked SAX2; SAX2 fails to start with this msg : "open /dev/fbo : no such device" then "sorry could not start configuration server". Thinking that the system did not have nVidia support at install time I then went to YAST2 text vers (ncurses) and did 'install/remove software', selected the 'nvidia_kernel' and 'nvidia_GLX' pkgs and installed them, got out of YAST2 and re-booted to linux 3. At runlevel 3 logged in as root and SAX2 fails same as before. Re-ran YAST2 text and verified that the nvidia pkgs are installed and they are there OK. This time I used YAST2 "Hardware- Graphic card" module and got to the YAST SAX2 page which starts OK, and selected "Change.."; Change starts and there is a bit of sys activety, but in a few seconds it stops and nothing has changed. This is a far as I have been able to get! Having been on this list for a few yrs, I have followed the Linux/nVidia issues as they happened and get resolved; I thought this would be straightforward, but alas I am stuck...... Can anyone assist me? PeterB p.s. here is what YAST2 text h/w info shows about this new ncidia card: Quadro 2 MXR/EX/Go ID =65624 dev = 65811 rev = 161 bus id :1 X11 fbde vers4 this is a 32MB 2 headed VGA card YAST2 ncurses 2.6.4 video hw setup page says: Monitor Unknown Resolution nil color depth bit hwinfo seems to show all appropriate framebuffer info
