Say could you try starting up a Konsole and at the command line typing in: xset -q Toward the end of the mess should appear someting like this: DPMS (Energy Star): Standby: 300 Suspend: 1200 Off: 1800 DPMS is Enabled Monitor is On If DPMS is not enabled the screen saver will not put you monitor to sleep. If that is the case you will need to go back to Yast2 (sax2) and make sure that you enable DPMS. You could also do a quick fix with xset by running the command: xset +dpms The problem is the next time you resart the X server you will have to re-run xset. My monitor doesn't turn off either but it goes into sleep mode. Sleep mode cuts the power use to under 5 Watts, that is good enough for me. Hello,
Maybe someone out there has had this happen. I have a Nokia 445X 21" monitor and an Intel D815EEA MB with on-board i810 graphics. Basic, but it works fine.
Up till one month ago I was running SuSE 8.0 after that, I reformatted and installed 8.1 fresh. Under both OSes, I had the Preferences -> Power Control -> Energy: enabled, standby after 10 minutes, suspend after 20 and off after 30 minute of inactivity. I have the screen saver activated after 5 minutes.
When I had 8.0 installed, the monitor would actually turn off after the 30 minutes of inactivity. Now, after installing 8.1, it never turns off. There were no BIOS changes between installs.
What is going on here?
