Hi there! You should still be able to get the Ethernet connection up at the command line as root by typing "ifup eth0" after boot. I've had this problem when I took out one card, and the other card still was eth1. Since there was no eth0, this caused problems. . .I know this isn't really a "fix", but it does get my network back up. -----Original Message----- From: Vishal Khanna [mailto:Vishal.Khanna@aitpl.co.in] Sent: Thursday, January 02, 2003 8:37 AM To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: [SLE] Suse 8.1  could not get valid interface name Hi, I just removed all the stuff (working 7.1 !) and installed a new system with 8.1 pro suse, and the problem is as described below: I use a 3COM 595 PCI ethernet adapter and this thing was detected automatically by 7.1 !! and now this new SUSE 81. just stops recognizing the new hardware. At boot time I see.. "ifup: Could not get a valid interface name. --- Skipped Failed" Anyone there please help... this is chaotic I thought I would update in 2-3 hours.. but this network issue was something totally unexpected, I even tried another network card from REALTEK and the response was the same again .... I think it is some rather basic problem which I cannot seem to figure out..
