I used

# fdisk -l 

Disk /dev/sdc: 4 heads, 32 sectors, 475 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 128 * 512 bytes

/dev/sdc1             1       475     30374+   4  FAT16 <32M


then 
# mount -t vfat /dev/sdc1 /media/camera

# cd camera/
# ls
.  ..  dcim  misc
# cd dcim
# ls
.  ..  100_pana
# cd 100_pana/
# ls
.  ..  p1000006.jpg  p1000007.jpg

I've now added it to /etc/fstab
