It will not be fast, true -- but it will still be quite usable (I use my 386sx16 with 10megs of ram as an Xterminal.) He should definitely not spend any money upgrading it though :-)
No, I will not :-) Or not much. I had to buy a 3 1/2 floppy drive, the original one is in use on another computer. Also, I had to buy a new HD, the original 82 Mb one is lost (on permanent loan to somebody :-} ), and it was insufficient for anything. I got a 1.8Gb unit from a second hand store for less than 50 Eur, and it was a new unit, in fact. Also, the power supply broke down years ago, while powering a pentium, so I bought a new one from a surplus electronic store, for about 10 Eur. The rest of the hardware is original. Even the keyboard, which has been in use since 1991. It was well built. So... if I'm unable to install linux on this machine, I'll keep it with old dos, for my small history museum :-) -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
