These are the package names. Did you install apt4rpm or apt-get?
apt-0.5.4cnc8-1cl.i386.rpm
I installed:apt-0.5.4cnc9-1cl.i386.rpm
apt-devel-0.5.4cnc8-1cl.i386.rpm
I do not have the devel installed.
synaptic-0.24-rb1.i386.rpm
I installed:synaptic-0.26-rb1.i386.rpm
Still I have problems with the Gnome culprit :-(
In my /etc/apt/sources.list, I have no "gnome", only "gnome2".
Thanks. I just had a look there, and could find Gnome. I erased them. Hurraaahh. My synaptic is working now. Thanks for giving me that impulse :-)

Hi.
On my SuSE 8.1 system, I have installed synaptic. It gives the following error:
could not open RPM package list file /var/lib/apt/lists/ftp.gwdg.de_pub_linux_suse_apt_SuSE_8.1-i386_base_ pkgl ist.update-prpm:
Problem opening /var/lib/apt/lists/ftp.gwdg.de_pub_linux_suse_apt_SuSE_8.1-i386_base_ pkgl ist.update-prpm
The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
Why can't it open the package list ?.
