Thanks everyone. My Linksys wireless card is now working perfectly. Any ideas on finding a driver for my Canon FB620P scanner? The SANE driver I installed incorrectly configures the gamma tables. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Carter" <jimc@math.ucla.edu> To: "Dan Coalman" <dcoalman@polarprd.com> Cc: <suse-linux-e@suse.com> Sent: Monday, October 28, 2002 10:46 AM Subject: Re: [SLE] Wireless PCMCIA

I don't mind this - but I really need to find a suitable driver for my Linksys WPC11 PCMCIA wireless network card. I'm running standard 802.11b to an Apple Airport with 64-bit WEP encryption. I've loaded the wireless PCMCIA tools that come with the 8.0 distribution, but apparently, I still need a driver for the card.
Orinoco_cs works with my Linksys WPC11. It's in the kernel, and the latest version is 0.13a (I think) on http://ozlabs.org/people/dgibson/dldwd/
I don't have much experience with wlan-ng, but that driver is specific for the Intersil firmware on the Linksys, D-Link, Netgear, etc. cards, whereas orinoco_cs was originally for Lucent-Agere Orinoco (also Proxim and Dell Truemobile 1150), but it also handles Intersil and Symbol firmware.
In Ad-Hoc mode I had some nasty interoperability problems between a Linksys WPC11 and an Orinoco card, and wlan-ng was no better than orinoco_cs in fixing them. Bugs in the Intersil firmware are blamed.
