Problem not solved yet .......
At the lilo prompt acpi=off apm=on produces the desired configuration.
Now to make it permanent. I have looked at the YaST bootloader configuration tool but before messing it up....what exactly do I need to edit ? I assume that the change has to go in at "section options".
What exactly needs to be done ?
add acpi=off apm=on tp the append line of your /etc/lilo.conf or with Yast2, and be sure to run lilo as root afterward (I believe this is done if using Yast2. HTH.
Just wanted to say that I'm using Grub, I tried that line and variations thereof and still nothing works. I should add that I'm using a PC with a 17" CRT which I've resorted to switching off manually. I wish someone would come up with a solution that really works, because I've just about given up trying.
