Problem not solved yet ....... At the lilo prompt acpi=off apm=on produces the desired configuration. Now to make it permanent. I have looked at the YaST bootloader configuration tool but before messing it up....what exactly do I need to edit ? I assume that the change has to go in at "section options". What exactly needs to be done ? Refering to the SuSE Manual for lilo .....the example states append="mcd=0x300,10" Using YaST I have tried acpi=off apm=on "acpi=off apm=on" "acpi=off","apm=on" none has worked. What is the correct syntax, please ? -- John Robert Sweet wrote:
In /boot/grub/menu.1st add to the kernel line:
acpi=off apm=on
I too have a Dell laptop and that works for me.
