Hello list. I have a HPLJ6P, SuSE 8.1, using LPR as my default print system (works nicely with my linksys printserver). Anyway, I'm having a problem with the top print margins. I seems, when I print from Konqueror and Kword my top margin is about twice what they should be. In Kword top and bottom is set at .5 and I get about 1.0 on the top and about .25 on the bottom. There doesn't seem to be a way to adjust the margins during printer setup. In konqueror I get 1.0 inch top no matter what. Just looking for suggestions. FYI the printer is capable of .25 inch margins all the way around.
I don't know how 8.1 does it, I have 7.3, which uses lpr. There is a script, "/var/lib/apsfilter/SETUP" that does the setup thing. The paper size seems to come directly from the script: do_paper () { set_geometry message=" Choose the paper size of your printer. PAPERSIZE X(in) Y(in) X(cm) Y(cm) " run_dialog --menu "$message" $ROWS $((COLS-10)) $((ROWS-11)) \ "a4" '8.26389 11.6944 20.9903 29.7039' \ "a4dj" '8.26389 11.6944 20.9903 29.7039' \
From there, they must be hardcoded somewhere, but I haven't found where. My guess is you could easily edit that script with a new entry, run it, and change your printer entry.
P.S: The setting go to files in /etc/gs.upp/*, where I see lines like: -sPAPERSIZE=a4dj I'm not sure if my above sugestion will work. a4dj and the like must be defined elsewhere. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
