One last little problem, before I start getting to work in earnest (I hope!).
Under 8.0 I installed a startup script obtained from the web, to start my ADSL modem. As per the web site, this was installed under rc5.d (and rc2.d/rc3.d) as S92adsl (with no corresponding K script). The high number meant it ran last in the runlevel 5 setup process.
When I updated to 8.1, the script was retained, but was named S01adsl. For reasons of speed, I prefer it as S92adsl, so I renamed it (with mv command).
But every time I run Suseconfig, it reverts it to S01adsl.
Anyone know how to stop this happening?
At the beginning of the script you should have a line beginning with # Required-Start. On that line you can put one of the high numbered scripts in rc5. That way, SuSEconfig will make sure your script is numbered higher than the one you list as required. Put your script in /etc/init.d and use "insserv <scriptname>" to create the symlinks. For an example of the use of Required-Start, as well as the other lines you can/should have in your script, look at /etc/init.d/skeleton //Anders
