I was having the same thing when updating from 7.2 to 8.0 with ftp and boot floppy. The system was still working but was a 7.2 system. The problem was at Yast was thonking at the update was done. Nothing was working with Yast, nor the update, not the normal reinstall of the 7.2 packages. At the end i have done a fast backup of my home directory, a new install process with Suse 8.0, ftp and the same floppy and all was OK. The new install is better as the update process in that way at all that is done is on the harddisk. In case of problem, you will restart from where you was after the few welcome screens. It seam to be much more stabil and effective too. I can think also at with a new install, you will get only the bugs of the new version, not the cumulative bugs of the 2 versions. Good luck Dominique John Janmaat wrote:
Hello
I am trying to update, via FTP, from 7.1 to 8.0. I use the boot CD, and am able to download all the packages. However, when the system gets past the red warning screen, it reports an error and then crashes. On restarting the system, it welcome screen is still that for SuSE 7.1. Can anyone help?
Thanks,
John.
