I want to install SuSE 7.0 on a Toshiba Satellite 2545CDS laptop. I made the laptop boot floppy and the rescue disk. Using them, I mounted the c:\ drive on /windows/C and using # fdisk -l I got : Disk /dev/hda: 255 heads, 63 sectors, 526 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/hda1 * 1 526 4225063+ c Win95 FAT32 (LBA) Partition 1 has different physical/logical endings: phys=(524, 254, 63) logical=(525, 254, 63) What does this mean? # df gives me: File system 1024-blocks Used Available Capacity Mounted on /dev/hda1 4216800 1203284 3013516 29% /windows/C ------------------------------------------------------------------ This the info I got using Partition Magic 4.0: First Physical Sect 63 (cyl 0, Head 1, Sect 1 Last Physical Sect 8,450,189 (cyl 525, Head 254, Sect 63 Total Physical Sect 8,450,127 (4,126.0 MB) Physical Geometry 526 Cyl, 255 Hds, 63 Sect Type FAT32X Using PM 4.0, I shrunk the c:\ drive and created an ext2 partition as a test and canceled the change, I am not sure if this would mess up the c:\ drive. The question--- Should I proceed and shrink the c:\ drive and create the ext2 partition using PM 4.0 and install SuSE 7.0? jozien
