hi
From: yong8964 [mailto:yong8964@attbi.com] [...] I tried to rerun the /usr/bin/mysql_init_db, but after that, I didn't find that the root password was set to empty. I still can't login as any account. What I should do to recreate a mysql database as the same as it is just installed freshed? I don't have too much useful data in it. The question is that I don't want to reinstall the whole database. I just want to recreate the database.
the "brute force" method would be - stop the database - save any directory in $DATADIR, which is not named mysql or test - remove everything from $DATADIR - type "rcmysql start" - it will initialize the database - set the administrator password :) - stop the database again - copy your saved databases back to $DATADIR - "rcmysql start" again - create all users previously defined.
Please help. Thanks hope that helps.
The lesson I learned: Don't load any sql script using root account! a very important lesson everyone has to learn - sooner or later ;-)
