Has anyone had any success getting Linux to control/route a satellite modem? I am trying to help my brother setup a small business network using SuSE8. They have a Hughes Network Systems Directway DW4000 satellite broadband internet connection (ouch, that is mouthfull). The send/receive modems connect into the PC via a "convenient" USB cable instead of your bog standard RJ45 network cable. The software and support that comes with the system is Microsoft only. http://www.hns.com/default.asp?CurrentPath=products/direcway_terminals/dw300... The idea is to have a pared down Linux system to provide routing/masquerading and firewalling for the business network. (I have done this with a standard cable modem, and it worked quite nicely) The problem is that we have yet to get the USB satellite modem device to work with Linux. The device itself works, and if we connect a wonderously expensive Win2000 server and the driver sw for the modems it all works nicely, sans proper firewall security. Thing is, they don't want the expense and problems of a Win2k server... they want a Linux system. ;-) I have done a fair bit of Google-ing and not come up with a lot... Anyone have any ideas, web site suggestions, or experience with these USB satellite modems from Hughes? C.
