You are right in both cases. Sometimes I'm working on computer "server" and sometimes on "lavonx". Instead of going to the other computer I wanted to run a program remotely. Your first reply fixed my problems. Now I know why it will not work if I'm in the other computer via telnet. Can I change this setting so that I do not have to execute `xhost +server` or `xhost +lavonx` everytime I want to execute a remote program?
try this: ssh -X user@server This allows X forwarding over the SSH link, and creates a psuedo X server on the server, and sets the DISPLAY variable correctly, which saves you all that hassle :) -- James Ogley, Unix Systems Administrator, Pinnacle Insurance Plc james.ogley@pinnacle.co.uk www.pinnacle.co.uk +44 (0) 20 8731 3619 Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.0) Updated GNOME RPMs for SuSE Linux: www.usr-local-bin.org ********************************************************************** CONFIDENTIALITY.This e-mail and any attachments are confidential and may also be privileged.
