There's a sad story here. By far the finest tool I know of for disk testing and cleansing is Steve Gibson's SpinRite, but it only works on Windows partitions. Steve has been very outspoken about the security flaws in Windows, so he has no love for it. I find it hard to believe that SpinRite, given its low-level nature, couldn't work on partitions of any type or (even better) on an entire drive. I wish he could be persuaded to release a version that would also work on Linux partitions (or SCO, or what-have-you). Paul
