Well, ok..if this is going to become a sterile "ask an precise question get a precise answer list" instead of the community discussion list with topic of SuSE Linux and related matrial then I would suggest a few things that I would love to see happen.
1. Trim email so that it's not pages and pages long. Put only the
[RANT] Well OK ... if this is going to be "attack a guy for stating his honest opinion" then I'm going to give as good I get and I'll do it any damned way I please (and I'm getting just a bit pissed off with a bunch of supposedly helpful but in reality ignorant muppets having a go one after the other at me)! Why doesn't just one of you dickwads sit back and say ... hey somebody else is handling this, I'll steer clear! parts
that are being replied to in the email.
I do my e-mails according to what I understand to be Internet etiquette ... live with it!
2. Use an MUA that doesn't break threads because some of use use real email clients that let us delete whole threads we are not interested in such as " Why doesn't my crappy isp work with kppp" and " Why doesn't my GDI WinPrinter work "
I use Lotus Notes, I have no choice, it's my employer's decision not mine ... you don't like it, tough!
3. Please remember that just hitting reply on a message and changing the subject doesn't start a new thread it screws up the existing thread and throws garbage some of us don't want to read into the mix.
It's the mail client, it's Lotus Notes, I dislike it as much as you do, if I could get rid of it I would but I have no choice and, WRT me, nor do you ... live with it!
4. Please do NOT email a list user directly. I haven't bitched about it much in the past but I for one am not anyone's personal tech support. If you can not get an answer on the list. Do not email list members directly just because they might be able to answer the question.
5. When you reply to a post please make sure to ONLY have the list address in your message. DO NOT cc or bcc the person who wrote the message. If they wrote the message and it got to the list ..they are on the bloody list and will get the message. That's WAY more annoying the most of what people have bitched about here lately. Getting 2 messages with the same content because people are to damn lazy to click in the
It would help if you all agreed on what etiquette is ... I have been told by several people to do a reply to all, you tell me otherwise! So basically I can please no one ... guess that's another one you're gonna have to live with! little
cc box and remove the users address is damn rude. If your client doesn't support the use of procmail to fix this. The get another email client. Don't whine and say " but it's all I have "...when there are tons of free clients that handle mail properly.
You new people seem to want to rule the roost. You forget that this
Blah blah blah ... if the list was set up properly to reply to the list then it wouldn't damned well happen would it? Take it up with SuSE list management! list
has existed for years before you decided to join the Linux community and you are alienating some of the older users who like the community aspect of it. The reason Linux has come so far in such a short amount of time is because people believe in it..it's almost a zealot belief. The reason this religious belief is good is because it motivates people. Where companies pay people to care and to code. It's only the beliefs in OpenSource that make people spend those 5-6 hours a day after their paying job to code the software you use. Personally I don't like mega off topic disscussions but as long as they are related to Linux and don't go off the deep end thats fine. This isn't a truely moderated list because it's such a broad list.
I don't see where the original post was Microsoft bashing. It might have poked a bit of fun, but all in all it was a heads up. I don't really think
off topic Microsoft related stories should show up here. If people want to dig on Microsoft and as well they should for what they've done in
I see ... seniority breeds contempt does it? I'm new, I ask questions, I sometimes say stupid things but I do have opinions and I am not now and never will be an evangelist ... I still think MS is a good OS/s, I think that the guy who posted the first message in this thread was posting inappropriately and I WILL say so if I damned well want to! that the
past...the FUD they spread about Linux and prior to that about OS/2. They deserve scorn from anyone.
I happen to disagree and, if I feel like saying so then I will ...live with it!
If anyone wants to join a chatter list or post things such as Anti- Microsoft stuff. Please join the lx-talk list. You can email ck@mamalala.de who is the list owner and he will subscribe you.
The point, in case you are too dim to get it, is I DON'T want that, I NEVER wanted that ... I want to get technical help from technical people, people I have learned to respect on the basis of their technical skills but not necessarily on their opinions of what is or what is not a good OS! [/RANT] Calming down a little ... I am going to say this, if you had meant your reply to be friendly advice I apologise, it didn't come across that way and it came at the end of a lot of attacks (I've been smacked down about 5 times already for the same thing ...it's f***ing irritating) ... that's it! It's entirely your decision if you reply to this but bear in mind if you do so in what I perceive to be an aggressive fashion then I will respond in what I consider to be an appropriate fashion!
