Oh no... not again. Let's make some rules before we continue this thread: NO FLAME WAR PLEASE!!! For some reason every time there is a discussion about Gnome/KDE is ends in a flame war.... :-( So, here is my 'humble' opinion: I prefer KDE above GNOME. Of course my motivation is subjective, but I think KDE is a step further in evolution than GNOME. First of all, as a software engineer, I like the Qt concept very much. The GTK(+) is nice, but Qt is probably the most advanced (GUI) toolkit at the moment. And it's C++. And personally I think C++ is extremely useful when programming a windows enviroment. The KDE libraries on top of Qt makes sure that KDE applications have a unified interface, for example have a look at the 'file open' boxes. In Gnome this is somewhat primitive. KDE is more stable than GNOME. KDE has a great development environment (KDevelop). Although KOffice isn't finished yet, it is much more an office suite than GNOME office. There are more reasons, but my choice is basically made on the technical architecture. The biggest 'no' against KDE was the Qt licensing scheme. This is now fixed, but there are still folks who thinks that the Qt licensing scheme sucks. But again, I only look at the technical side of KDE.... Regards Harry
