Do not "save as" to a postscript file. Instead "print" -> "print to file" as a postscript file.
Ralph,
It may be the phase of the moon or something, but I'm getting dense... In Konqueror, there are, besides other choices, a "Print To File (PostScript)", but in StarOffice, I don't see it. Would you kindly spell out from A to Z, how to do it?
I know how to fax using plain text, but the file I must fax has very special format, originally created in MS Word and since long modified and embellished in S.O.-5.2.

Been using Openoffice and SO6 so much I had forgotten that SO 5.2 was not as automatic. But it is still pretty easy.
From your work file in SO 5.2 select File -> Print. Check the print to file box. A "save as" window will open up. Select the directory that you want the postscript file saved to, then give the file a *.ps name i.e. myfile.ps
