Dial on demand. You're modem should be detected automatically, when you configure it there is a tick box for "dial on demand", you may also want to go into /etc/sysconfig/networks and edit ifcfg-ppp0 to have the parameter STARTMODE="onboot" in it, this seems to call "cinternet --start" which means dialondemand is started automatically. Thats that bit sorted.
Well my modem is not detected untill after the install is completed as its a lucent internal modem. I have a small tar file to enable it. It works fine once it is set up.
If you go into kde you should see the kinternet icon in the taskbar showing
If I set the modem using yast2, I do get the KInternet icon in the taskbar. The problem is that if I enable Dial on Demand with yast2 modem setup, when I click the KInternet icon I just get a green halo around the icon, and it doesn't dial. Unselecting DoD makes KInternet work again. I'm sure there is a simple solution to this problem. I tried setting 'demand=yes' in /etc/sysconfig/networks/ifcsg-ppp0, however this doesn't appear to make any difference to KInternet. I hope this explains the problem and that someone has had a similar situation and managed to find a solution. Regards Mark A
