this is weird. is it that SuSE just doesn't like running on servers?
on this server, SuSE 8 installed ok, no errors, I did a pretty large install, however online update complains about every package description saying either gpg is not installed(according to rpm, yast, and running 'gpg' on command line it is) or the package description is curropted. This happens on both the default ftp site(ftp.d<something>.de) and ftp.suse.com. It is real annoying to me to have to click "don't install" about 40 times while it fails on each package description. Online update won't let me abort the process either until everything is done and it is 'disconnected'.
a couple days ago I had the same problem and got pissed at online update so killed it with -12. i guess that was a mistake as even removing all of yast (rpm -qa | grep -i yast | xargs rpm -e --nodeps) and reinstalling it by hand(took about 20 minutes) still did not fix online update(it would launch and immediately exit before showing me any options, which was the same before i tried to remove yast, I also tried to use Yast to re-install itself(overwrite) and the result was the same too).
so i reinstalled the system from scratch since it was a fresh install and it would be faster then trying to debug it further. I expected a more graceful recovery for Online update. I have killed apt-get(debian) many many times even with -9 and it has never so much as hiccuped on me because of it.
anyways ........i would like to update this system, would like to fix this 'problem' with online update complaining the descriptions are curropted. maybe they are ? i would of expected a flood of emails to the list talking about it if they were but i didn't notice one.
there is also a 'gpg suse key' or something that is installed(i forget the exact name but it came up when i ran a search for gpg inside of yast2)

this system(hardware wise) has been running debian 2.2 for just over a year now processing thousands of emails a day ..so i know the hardware is solid.
this is a brand new installation of suse 8, haven't done anything to it yet .....
i am really hoping to get suse 8 going on a decently fast machine to test out, this is the 2nd attempt on another server to try to get it workin.
