I'm using Suse 8.0 Pro with a clean install and the 7 cd set. After yesterdays cry for help I got some information about a longstanding problem with Suse not seeing the cdrom drives properly when using a SCSI cdrom. (I have /dev/sr0 however yast2 won't recognize media from it, it's well documented at http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/yast2_pakete_installieren.html) Very frustrating.
That article also tells how to fix it. didn't that work?
I can however mount all the cds fine under Windows, so I'm thinking I'll copy them all to a hard drive directory on an NTFS volume and point Yast2 to that. (Obviously, I dual boot)
Is there a specific way that Yast2 will expect the directory setups, etc? I know each cd has the hidden .SuSExxxxxxxxxxxxx file and I've copied that to my /var/adm/current_package_descr/
I've copied all 7 cds to 7 directories, named CD1, CD2, CD3, CD4, CD5, CD6 and CD7 respectively. YaST2 can see them without problems if i "Change installation medium" to hard drive and give the path to the CD1 directory. It changes directory to the other cds as it needs to without any more input from me. Just remember to copy the .S.u.S.E* files from each CD when you transfer the data.
Are there other things I need to keep in mind?
I'm kicking myself for not order the DVD set instead ... Doh!
I beg your pardon? I wasn't aware that there were versions that had *just* the cds. I thought all boxes had both cds and dvd. //Anders -- I swear I do declare - how did you get that there?
