I cannot get a clear picture of the description of Windows XP and SuSE 8.0 on the same machine.
I want to buy a new notebook, which has Windows XP installed, and I want to setup SuSE 8.0 parallel to it. Since XP is pre-installed, I have no idea if it fits together or not.
Can anybody give me a hint?
I run SuSE 7.3 and Windows XP on the same system. If Windows XP is installed on an NTFS filesystem SuSE will not be able to resize the partition; you'll need to buy Partition Magic 7.0 (note the version number) instead which can resize XP NTFS partitions without a hitch (it's what I used here), then afterwards install SuSE which will detect the empty space and act accordingly. Another thing you might note for a notebook if you need to use a dial-up modem is that many of them have "winmodems" which either do not work or do not work as well under Linux. You'll need to get a "controller-modem" or "hardware modem" for Linux. (Incidentally it will also perform better with Windows because it'll be less of a strain on the CPU.) -- "It's Fabulous!
