The IPaQ should run most applications. You might check the familiar distro. They've og X working. The objective was to be able to run just about any Linux app as long as there was anough memory. One of the benefits of this project was that X was made more efficient. If you turn an IPaQ into a "brick", there is an offer to fix it in the familiar distro page. There are instaructions on the page on how to save your copy of Windows CE before installing the new boot loader. There are also several listservs, similar to this one. All I can tell you is that these guys are very passionate about the IPaQ, and Jim Gettys himself is one of the original people involved with X itself. WRT: Price. You can get thr 32 bit IPaQs reasonably cheap. The lowest on the factory outlet (refurbished) is about $279. http://www.compaqfactoryoutlet.com/ You can get a Visor or Palm for under $100 though. Hi Freddy... there is any place where I can take a look at the Software list that came with that Linux Distribution for Compaq IPAQ ?
Because there (on http://www.handhelds.org ) there are lots of information about setting up Linux on the IPAQ but doesn't said anything about the applications that came with it, or from where Could we get more applications that run's on the IPAQ?
Also I hear the rumor that if something goes wrong on the wipe of the Prom the IPAQ Could be unusable ?
also.. there is any Dual boot for the Windows CE & Linux ?
THANKs a LOT !!

The Compaq IPaQ comes installed with Windows CE, but Linux can be installed on it: http://www.handhelds.org
Linux has been running on the IPaQ since long before it was produced. Jim Gettys and his team at Compaq provide the familiar distribution.

I am looking to get a PDA this weekend. I am looking in the $199 range in my small home town. I wondered how the Handspring and Palm work on linux? Which is recomended? I'm on a limited budget and although I would love to have a linux based PDA none are in my price range. The local Staples has the Zaurus, but wants $699 for it...lol. Thanks
