The #1 thing that irritates most US users about StarOffice and OpenOffice, is the insistence of the A4 paper as "standard!!!" Getting the "correct" paper size to stick was a royal pain, but I have found 2 solutions. 1. go to your directory where Openoffice/Staroffice lives then go to ~/share/psprint using your favourite editor open the file psprint.conf. Scroll down and find the default paper size shown as PPD_PageSize=A4 and change that to PPD_PageSize=Letter or whatever. 2. If you want OO/SO to always start a text or spreadsheet file with your preferred font, paper size, margins, number formats, etc then you should also create a personalized default. a. Open a blank page and change to the formatting that you want as your default. b. Save in home/openoffice/user/template as an Openoffice template such as my_default_text.stw or my default_calc.stc c. Close Openoffice. d. Reopen Openoffice as text to change your text default or as a calc to change your calc default. e. Go to file -> templates -> organize and find your template, you may need to "update". f. Find your template, right click, and choose set as default. g. Close openoffice again. h. The next time you open openoffice it will use your template as the opening file. i. Do this for text, calc and/or presentation. Openoffice / Staroffice are interchangeable in the above. The above instructions look a bit complicated but the process is really not that difficult and really worth it. -- Ralph Sanford - If your government does not trust you, rsanford@telusplanet.net - should you trust your government?
