i installed the cross-over plugin for office yesterday on suse 7.3 and then installed office 2k. both went flawlessly. after about 15 minutes, i could open word, excel, powerpoint, outlook (even tried the hahaha@sexyfun.net virus and it worked) and internet explorer. opened access but it crashed when i tried to create a new database. but the other apps would open up and let me edit files, create new files, etc just like i was using a windows machine. created icons on my desktop for word and excel (would never use outlook for any reason nor would i use access) and all i have to do is click the icon and bam Word opens - just as fast as it does on a windows box to i might add. I also installed adobe illustrator and if i can find a copy of quicken lying around the office will try that. I dont use office that much - usually just to open a word or excel document that someone has emailed me, but that is a drag to do in staroffice (its a pig) and although koffice is good at most things, occassionally you get quirks with it as well, especially if you have to change the document and save it and return it to the sender. i for one would like to see ms office done away with - but thats just not gonna happen anytime soon, so in the meantime, i will use crossover plugin for office. I'm on the CrossOver mailing list because I bought the first plugin (which works great with SuSE)..I've seen about a 60/40 split on it working..60 being it works.
If you read the Codeweavers website you will see that it works with Office 97/2k only for now.
You all can get on the CrossOver mailing list at the website. It's maybe 10% of the traffic of the SLE and it has some great information on it.
